Privacy Policy

Otovar lets vehicle owners and auto repair shops keep track of service history. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and who can see it. For details see the Personal Data Notice.

Data we collect

Account: name, email, phone, profile photo and app language; for mechanics also business name, address, tax details and logo. When you sign in with Google, the name, email and profile photo of your Google account are retrieved.
Vehicle: licence plate, make/model, year, VIN, mileage, inspection/insurance dates, photos.
Service records, appointments, quote requests and parts/labour amounts; vehicle expenses you enter.
Fault reports: fault codes, check-engine light status, battery voltage, engine temperature, mileage and VIN read from your vehicle with a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter.
Support requests: the messages you write, app version and device platform.
Usage and error logs: last use time, app version and device platform; when the app hits an error, the error text (kept for 30 days).
Camera: used only when you take a photo or scan a QR code.
Notifications: to deliver service status updates and reminders to your phone we use our notification providers OneSignal (OneSignal, Inc., USA) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. For this purpose your device's notification token, your account ID and the notification content are sent to these services; your location, vehicles and service records are not shared. When you log out, your device is unlinked from your account. You can turn off notification permission in your phone settings.
Location: used with your permission in the "Mechanics Near Me" search, when a mechanic selects the business location, and in the Trip section (map, navigation, speed camera and toll alerts). A vehicle owner's location is not stored on the server; an approximate search area is sent to find nearby mechanics. To calculate routes and search addresses, the start/destination and the address you search for are passed through our server to OpenStreetMap-based services (OSRM, Nominatim); your identity is not shared with them. While driving, location is processed only on your device and may also be used while the app is in the background to give alerts. Whether speed camera and toll features are available in your country is also decided only on your device, from the last known location.
Quote requests: when you create a request its location is stored; mechanics see only the province/district and the distance to you.
Road reports: when you report an accident, traffic check, roadwork or similar, the report's location, direction of travel and note are stored. Other drivers are not shown who made the report. A report disappears when it expires and is deleted within 2 days after that.
Reviews: the rating and comment you give a mechanic are public together with your abbreviated name and vehicle make/model; you can edit or delete them at any time.

Who can see it?

Vehicle owners see their own vehicles, service records, fault reports and expenses.
A mechanic and their staff see only the vehicles paired with that business and those vehicles' service records and appointments. A fault report is seen only by the mechanic (and their staff) you share it with. Finance and statistics are visible only to the business owner.
For a quote request, mechanics see your vehicle, your request, your province/district and the distance to you; your name and exact location are not shown.
Vehicle history report: when you create a share link for your vehicle, anyone with the link can see, without logging in, the vehicle's make/model/year, partly masked plate, mileage history and service records (with amounts if you choose). The VIN is not shown. The link closes after the period you choose (7, 30 or 90 days), you can revoke it at any time, and it is hidden from search engines.
The business profile (name, logo, phone, address, location, services, ratings and reviews) is visible to all Otovar users; the mechanic can turn off listing.
Your expenses are not shared with mechanics. Your data is not sold.

Customer data entered by mechanics

Mechanics can record their customers' names, phone numbers and vehicle details one by one or import them in bulk. The mechanic is the data controller for this data and is responsible for obtaining it lawfully; Otovar stores it only to provide the service to the mechanic.

Ads and payments

The free version shows Google AdMob ads and Otovar's own ads; the app asks for your consent to personalised ads on first launch. Our own ads are targeted by province and user type; no individual tracking is done, only total impressions and clicks are counted. Subscriptions are purchased through Google Play; your card details never reach us.

Review and report rules

Reviews may only be written for a mechanic you actually received service from, based on your own experience.
Insults, profanity, threats, discrimination, advertising/spam, fake reviews and personal information such as phone numbers, plates or addresses are prohibited. False or malicious road reports are also prohibited.
You can report a review with "Report inappropriate content" in its menu. Reports are reviewed; content that breaks the rules is removed and accounts may be closed for repeated violations. Content reported by several users is hidden until the review is complete.

Where data is stored

Your data is stored and backed up on our servers in the European Union (Lithuania). The servers of our notification, advertising, payment and map service providers may also be located abroad.

Security

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are stored irreversibly and each user can access only the data they are authorised for.

Account and data deletion

You can delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete My Account or on this page. Deletion removes your personal data, vehicles, vehicle expenses, fault reports, support messages and uploaded files. Service records that mechanics must keep for legal reasons may be retained with the link to you removed.

Children

Otovar is not intended for anyone under 18.
